abstract = "To map burned vegetation cover at National Park Big Island (NPBI)
after recently burn occurrence is essential to analyze remote
sensing products that have high temporal resolution and have
suitable spatial resolution compared to Landsat images. Is
important to analyze performances of MODIS data and global product
by Climate Change Initiative (CCI) program to map burned areas.
The aim of this work was analyze performances of MODIS MOD09 data
and CCI global product for mapping burned vegetation cover at
National Park Big Island in period of 12/05/2006, 18/07/2007 and
27/12/2008. For this, we used infrared near images of MOD09 data
with temporal resolution of one or two days in Equator and spatial
resolution of 250m. Also, we used CCI product with monthly
distribution but each pixel registers the Julian day of burned
area occurrence and with spatial resolution of 300m. Burned areas
maps created by MOD09 data and CCI product were compare with
burned areas maps generated by Landsat TM images. The results
showed MOD09 data was more suitable to map burned vegetation cover
at park with average overestimates 7% of burned areas than burned
areas mapped by Landsat images. Furthermore, MOD09 data showed
better visual accuracy at burned areas distribution compared to
Landsat images and obtained better average performance of
validation indexes, as Kappa (0.85), Quantity Disagreement (DQ=
2.3) and Allocation Disagreement (AD= 4.6). The burned areas
mapped by CCI product showed average underestimate 61% compared to
burned areas created by Landsat images.",
